Thankful 4: Kind doctors/hospitals

I'm linking up with my lovely friend Lisa from Ledamae in her 'Thankful 4' post today.

Today I am thankful for kind doctors and hospitals.

Last night William had his first bout of croup for the year and we only had a few drops of his croup steroid medication left. So when he woke at 3.30am battling to breath we rushed him to emergency.

He had picked up quite a bit by the time we got there but was still coughing ever other breath. The triage dr who assessed him was so lovely and by the time I had finished filling in the admission form they took us into the children's ER. The doctor there was also really lovely and checked him and gave him medicine.

They have such great facilities in the children's ER and Will was quite taken with the cubby house (how my child has energy to play at 4am when he is coughing his little heart out is beyond me) but he loved it there and it wasn't an awful hospital experience at all.

So that's what I'm thankful for today. What are you thankful for?

I'm off to catch up on some sleep while Will has his day sleep :)

Knitting

I've taken up knitting!

Well I learnt to knit when I was a kid but I've never had the stamina to finish a decent looking project.

Image via here

So, to stop myself spending every evening in front of the laptop working or reading blogs and things I've decided to knit a throw rug!

I bought 10mm needles and this thick dark grey yarn. And I've made 5 squares of the blanket so far, above is the 6th in progress. I think I'll do 9 squares then sew them together.

Anyway, when I was at a church women's conference on the weekend they were talking about how with the cold weather about to start, homeless people need things like blankets, socks and scarves. So when I've finished my blanket I'm going to start doing scarves!

If you are a knitter why not join me! I haven't really thought through it all yet but I think once I've done maybe 10 scarves I'll drop them into a shelter or soup kitchen in the city.

It really is relaxing to sit on the lounge watching TV and knit. And I think that if I was living a lonely rough life on the streets, getting a hand made scarf would make me feel even just a little bit less lonely and forgotten.

So come on go get out those needles and wool and get knitting too!

Have a great day,

We loved you before we met you

Here is my gorgeous little man, only a few hours old. Doesn't he looks so beautiful, peaceful and perfect?

I think it's because he's going to be TWO soon that I've been thinking back about Will as a little bubba.

And all those thoughts have prompted me to design a new print which I think sums up not only the feelings of new parents/grandparents etc but it's also a reminder of the love for a child.

We loved you before we met you - blue

Customised with your child's name and date of birth...

It's kind of based on the Keep Calm prints in it's style.

I've just put it up on the shops and you can find it here:

What do you think? I'd love to know!

2nd Birthday party planning

So my little bubba is turning 2 at the end of next month!!! (and I know he's not a bubba any more but I think I will call him my bubba till he's 50 or something :)

So anyway I'm thinking of doing an Owl theme party as he LOVES owls at the moment.
All birds are Owls... he spots a bird and says 'Oooooowweeell' and I'm like 'Um no Will, that's an Indian Minor Bird' hehehe.

So I'm thinking of doing a blue and green theme with owls. I've already bought a few things, table cloth, blue plates, blue and green cups, blue and white stripe paper straws, blue and white spotted serviettes and blue and green bunting.

I will attempt to make an owl cake and I was thinking of using all the white paper lanterns I have from my 30th and stick eyes, triangle beak and wings onto them so they look like big owls flying all over the deck. What do you think?

I don't want to go quite so over board or have as many people as we had for Will's 1st birthday which you can see here.

But I hope it will be fun. So if you have any ideas for me for owl themed things or games for toddlers that would be great!

DIY outdoor artwork

Today I thought I'd show you a little DIY artwork I've been working on.

About a month ago I saw an old weathered pallet on the side of the road. And I thought Hmmm.... I think I could do something with that. So I pulled over and heaved it into the back of the car.

Poor hubby, I think he must think I'm a bit crazy when I bring things like this home.

So I got out the crowbar and asked him to help me pull the extra planks off; the side ones and those two on the top so that it's just the flat planks and their backing ones.

And then I used our outdoor Dulux weathershield paint to paint a white silhouette of leaves etc onto it.

And here is how it came out...

Hubby loves it and I think we've found the perfect spot in the garden to hang it!

I love re purposing/recycling things!

Cuddle Weather

Our grass was so dry a week ago, that the little girl next door told her mum that the grass was turning to Hay :)

NOW it's like torrential rain! There are mini rivers down our front path and going down the street.

It's cuddle weather today for sure. And Will and I are going out this afternoon to buy Gumboots!

Thanks to everyone who entered my facebook competition. I announced the winner this morning and Belinda McKenna was the lucky winner!!! YAY!

Anyway Will's little girlfriend from down the road is coming over for a playdate now so I better put the kettle on.

Our anniversary in the moutains

Yesterday was our 7yr wedding anniversary. Seven years! I know, can you believe it!

So a few weeks ago we booked a night away in the Blue Mountains and Mum and Dad kindly offered to look after Will for us.

Here we are at Evan's Lookout, it got all misty just as we arrived and was so pretty.

Here is the lobby of the hotel we stayed at. It was an old guest house in Katoomba. The rooms weren't anything amazing but the building itself was very pretty and the lobby and dining room were beautiful.

We also snuck into the ballroom and practised our waltzing skills in the big empty room
(wish I could have got a pic of it - quite funny)

Another corner of the lobby.

During the day we went shopping at Leura, coffees, cakes, antique shops, lookouts etc.

You know how you've seen 50million photos of the three sisters and the Blue Mts and been there dozens of times but then when you're there again it's just breath taking all over again.

(You never can line up photos right when you're holding the camera out in front of you!) :)

So yeah, we had a wonderful time!!! It was our first time going away without William, I kept thinking about him and missing him but it was nice to have time just the two of us.

How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

Have a great day,

A very special day

Yesterday was William's Thanksgiving Service/Naming Day.... like a christening but without the water :)

It was such a nice day. Will was very good during the service, was relatively quiet and even gave himself a round of applause at the end. Our minister Tony did a fantastic job and my sister did such a lovely prayer. Glen's brother, his wife and my sister became Will's godparents, so it was a very special day.

Here we are up the front, Will being held by our minister Tony.

After the service our close family and friends came back for lunch and a little celebration.

I kept it as a simple blue theme with different shades of blue.
I bought the paper bunting from our local party shop, as well as some cute blue and white stripe paper cups. I put up the white paper lanterns that I had for my birthday.

Here is my mum helping put the food out.

And the lunch was very simple - a few different salads, potato bake, chicken and rolls.

Here is the new godmother, my sister with her little godson. Doesn't he look handsome in his check shirt!

Cupcakes with 'W's on them.

Christening cake my friend Emma made.

Here we are cutting the cake, it was chocolate, yum!

William certainly enjoyed it!

And I made these personalised chocolate bars for the guests to take home.

It was a lovely day all round.

What did you get up to on the weekend?
